Mayabeque, Cuba: In 2019, the Comprehensive Consultation for the Care of Diabetic Patients, at Jaruco’s Polyclinic Noelio Capote, arrived at its thirteenth anniversary with a consolidated work in favor of the quality of life of patients with that disease.

The head of the Program of chronic noncommunicable diseases, in the Municipal Direction of Public Health, Dr. Dianelis Valdés García, said that only this year 79 cases were diagnosed, with which more than 1,700 people afflicted by this disease in the territory

"In 2006, the municipality was the scene of the first active screening of diabetes mellitus in Cuba, and three years later the consultation was completed, a first also in this type of services nationwide," recalled the master's degree in Medical Emergencies.

Since then, the multidisciplinary team headed by Dr. Gisela Rubio Cabrera has been working tirelessly to reduce the complications of the disease and increase survival, she stressed.

In 2009, the first 20 glucometers were placed in the local care units, and subsequently expanded the coverage of this instrument to cover more than 80 percent of patients.

The successful application of Heberpot-P in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcer also supports Jaruco's history in terms of care and prevention of amputation of the lower limbs, whose index has been significantly reduced in the last decade.

With these results and also enjoying the gratitude of the people, doctors, nurses, technicians and specialists who ensure up to now a systematic and quality care for diabetics, maintain their commitment to protect, relieve and heal their patients, older adults in its totality.
