In 1961 the Integrated Revolutionary Organizations were formed as the first step towards the creation of the unitary political instrument of the Revolution; Formed by the Revolutionary Movement July 26, the Popular Socialist Party and the Revolutionary Directory of March 13.

On March 26, 1962, starting from an analysis of the achievements of integration and the errors of sectarianism, a new phase begins in the construction of a party, from that date called United Party of the Socialist Revolution of Cuba (PURSC).

On October 3, 1965, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) was formed.

From December 17 to 22, 1975, the First Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba was held.

On February 15, 1976, with the approval of the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, by means of a popular referendum where 98 percent of voters participated, the Party’s role in Cuban society was defined.

Article 5 of Chapter I of the Constitution stipulates that: “The Communist Party of Cuba, Martiano and Marxist-Leninist, the organized vanguard of the Cuban nation, is the superior leading force of the Society and the State, which organizes and guides te common efforts towards the high ends of the construction of socialism and the advance towards the communist society. ”
