Mayabeque, Cuba: Alberto Gutiérrez Walón deserved the Provincial Prize for Journalism for the Life?s Work, a decision of the members of the jury formed for the occasion, who also awarded the annual awards for specialties.

Gutiérrez Walón, works in the Mayabeque Newspaper and accumulates more than 40 years in the journalistic practice. In advance he worked in radio and television, even holding management positions.

He was appointed by the Political Directorate of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), as director of the newspaper Venceremos that was published in Angola for military collaborators. As a war correspondent he published in Granma and Verde Olivo

His works are characterized by an excellent writing and depth in the topics he addresses, he stands out for the treatment of economic issues, including agriculture and the sugar harvest with greater preponderance.

He served as a correspondent for Radio Rebelde in the former province of Havana and in 2018 he was awarded the Annual Provincial Prize for Print Journalism.

He has the medals Felix Elmusa, Raúl Gómez García, the Internationalist Mission, 50 years of Victories, For the victory Cuba-People’s Republic of Angola and Outstanding in the preparation for Defense, among other recognitions.

The Annual Provincial Radio Award was conferred on Maydelín Remón Ramón, from Radio Camoa, taking into account his outstanding career during 2020, in coverage of Covid-19, food production, energy savings and import substitution.

His works are characterized by the search and the depth with which he addresses the most dissimilar topics and the use of different journalistic genres, with a preponderance for the chronicle, the testimony, the reportage and the life stories.

In the year evaluated, he obtained the Prize from La Mujer Publishing House as part of the National Journalism Contest July 26, Mention in the Journalistic Contest, May Day and Mention in the Provincial Economic Journalism Contest. He achieved 4 other awards at the annual grassroots event.

In Television media, the jury awarded the prize to Yaremi Madero Ponce from Telemayabeque, for adequately complying with the rules that govern journalism in this communication medium, the selection of images and the use of a clean and direct writing that does not replace images and enhance journalistic material.

The approach to different economic, social and political issues characterize the delivered sample, which made it reach the public through the proper use of journalistic genres.

Due to the freshness and clarity with which she addresses a diversity of topics (economic, social, political), without forgetting the depth in the arguments, the search, the comparison, and the journalistic narration, in such a way that he achieves high quality printed products, it was considered conferring the Annual Provincial Prize for Printed Journalism to Alaín Mira López, from the Mayabeque Newspaper.

The jury also highlighted his correct use of criticism, discipline and organization in his work and the contribution of a wise young man to the decisions made in the newspaper.

When evaluating the works presented by the specialty of Digital Journalism, the jury decided to award the Annual Provincial Award to Andy Duardo Martín, from Radio Mayabeque, for the comprehensive quality that prevailed in the sample analyzed by the jury, distinguishing the use of multimedia products (videos, infographics, audios, photos, galleries, timelines).

Digital journalistic genres were varied, as well as thematic diversification, with daily participation in networks such as Twitter and Facebook.

In 2020, the candidate achieved the Provincial Prize for Economic Journalism in its digital version, the Annual Provincial Prize for Digital Journalism, Worker of Merit of the Cuban Radio and the Patria Prize awarded by the José Martí Cultural Society.

In journalistic design, the greatest award went to Andrys Gil González. The jury took into account that his work made it possible to organize the informative messages, adequately embraces the iconic languages ??of disciplines such as photography, drawing and illustration.

The exhibition went through different topics of high social interest and gave greater importance to the informative materials, with a correct use of images and colors.

Another of the awards given by the Cuban Journalist Union in Mayabeque is the Annual Provincial Prize for Young Journalism, a recognition that Ineibis Marrero García, from Radio Camoa, achieved.

When evaluating the sample provided by the reporter, the use of an outstanding and clean radio language was considered, the treatment of various issues of production and services using a variety of journalistic genres and novel forms of production.

She likes to go in search of those characters that characterize the city life where she lives and who at the same time exemplify the use of human values.

She had an active participation in coverage related to Covid-19 and the Young Communists League granted her the status of Youth for Life.

In their final opinion, the members of the jury report that they valued 15 files and recognized a greater participation in applicants for the Work of Life Award, compared to the specialties, summoned to a greater participation in 2021.
