Mexico: Members of the transition team of the president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, and representatives of the government of Mexico, held another meeting on the immigration issue, the Foreign Ministry confirmed today, Prensa Latina publishes.

In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Relations indicates that the US side expressed the desire to work with Mexico and other regional partners to address the root causes of migration and the importance of promoting economic growth in Central America.

It reveals that Biden’s team reported on the matter discussed in a statement and adds that both parties expressed a shared commitment to respect human rights and seek orderly migration.

This exchange is part of the tradition of incoming governments – such as those of Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama – of meeting with their North American partners exclusively on issues that will arise after the inauguration and to prepare for cooperation between the two countries, it adds.

The statement emphasizes that this exchange was a follow-up to the conversation held on January 6 between the next National Security adviser, Jake Sullivan, and the Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard.
