Mayabeque, Cuba_ The twentieth edition of the softball tournament of the press Jorge Luis Valdés Rionda in Memoriam, began yesterday and will continue until October 6.
According to the organizers, a total of eight teams are participating in the competition, six of them classified by their respective geographical zones, in addition to the teams of the national media, the current champions, and the host team the Cowboys of Artemisa and Mayabeque.
In the central region, the team of Camagüey won the title of the qualifying event, held in Ciego de Ávila and won, along with Sancti Spíritus, one of the two tickets for the national tournament.
In the east, the two seats went to Las Tunas and Holguín, two of the most stable teams since 2013. In the west, tickets were awarded to Matanzas and Isla de la Juventud.
Monday was dedicated to the accommodation of the participants at Los Cocos camping base and the technical congress of the contest.
This Tuesday, began the meetings by the system of all against all in one round, ranking the first four of the position table. These teams will discuss the semifinals on Saturday morning and the winners in the afternoon will discuss the title.
The contest gathers, each year, more than 180 press professionals from all over the country, with the aim of achieving fraternization among the colleagues of the guild and exchange experiences.
