Colombo: The Friendship and Graduate Associations in Cuba and leaders of several political parties today rejected the new measures of the United States (US) in its intensification of the blockade and application of the Helms-Burton Law against the Caribbean country.

The Sri Lankans in solidarity with the Cubans reiterated in a statement, to which Prensa Latina agreed, the illegality of Title III, which contravenes the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of International Law, they maintain.

This law, since its entry into force in 1996, seeks to universalize the extraterritorial application of the long blockade against the Island, through the use of illegal US pressure against third countries, their governments and their companies.

Its objective is to suffocate the economy and has the consequences of increasing the shortcomings of the Cuban population, they say.

According to its own letter, it intends to impose a government that responds to US interests, the signatories of the declaration conclude.
