In 2009, when Fidel could no longer physically attend May Day celebrations, his reflections highlighted the value of the date for Cubans and the rest of the workers of the world: "We hope, he wrote, that each May 1st, thousands of men and women from all corners of the planet share with us the International Workers' Day.
This Wednesday, hundreds of representatives of different countries, organizations and other structures that support the Cuban Revolution accompanied us, they reject the coup attempts in Venezuela and the subversion of the Latin American right, supported by the White House, against the nations that have freely and democratically chosen, as Martà said, "to walk together, like the silver to the Andes’ roots."
Hence the support of the people of Mayabeque who still think in the ideological independence of the Cuban Apostle and Simón BolÃvar, in all those heroes who made freedom and independence their final path.
Both in the capital city, San José de las Lajas, as well as in the population centers in each municipality, thousands of workers from the country's youngest province will raise their voices and hands to reject the suffocating policy of the current President of the United States, Donald Trump, against this Island and its people. It is unfortunate that the President ignores the spirit of struggle and resistance that we inherited from heroes and martyrs, from our unbeaten Fidel.
We will parade this May Day because despite the limitations the basic attention to the population of Mayabeque is maintained, due to the investment efforts in the public health sector that results in better care and service, because our children have a safe and high education qualification, undoubtedly one of the best in the world, is not chauvinism but a criterion reiterated by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture, UNESCO.
We will parade because, despite the ruthless economic and financial blockade, as workers we have all the guarantees to carry out the functions that correspond to us and we have union support. Because we know what are the weaknesses that were born with the new times and how to eradicate them in a sovereign act. Nobody is going to come from outside to solve the problems we may have in the economy, it is up to the Cuban workers movement and its leaders to find the necessary solutions.
As Fidel also said in 2009, "Not in vain, long before January 1, 1959, we proclaimed that our Revolution would be the Revolution of the humble, for the humble and to the humble. The successes of our country in the spheres of education, health, science, culture and other branches, and especially the strength and unity of the people, are proving it ".
The Homeland calls. For that reason and for more we must be participants on Wednesday of the proletarian party, to support a social system that has people as a primary objective and workers as an essential force for the advancement of the country. Here, rooted in the Caribbean Sea, free and sovereign, without fearing the proximity of the imperial claws, we will continue shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand, seeking ways for the Homeland.
