Havana_ The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, received María Fernanda Espinosa, President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the headquarters of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, during a meeting in which both parties expressed mutual interest for further strengthening cooperation ties, the Cuban News Agency publishes.

The visit serves to confirm Cuba's commitment to multilateralism, the defense of peace and the right of persons and peoples to it, in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter and other expressions such as the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, the Cuban diplomat said.

Espinosa highlighted that her presence on the Island is recognition of the fundamental role of Cuba in strengthening the multilateral system, the constructive contribution to strengthening decision-making processes of the UNGA, leadership in the Non-Aligned Movement and the promotion of agendas in diplomacy for peace.

Espinosa described Cuba as one of the stellar countries in compliance with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, and the Cuban Foreign Minister stressed that Cuba will continue working on cooperation initiatives with the United Nations system in that regard.

Espinosa's agenda in Havana includes meetings with members of civil society, gender specialists, and representatives of the United Nations system and will give a keynote address to students of the Higher Institute of International Relations Raúl Roa.
