Havana_ Cuba maintains a favorable epidemiological situation supported by the absence of cases of cholera and the non-transmission of Zika and Chikungunya, senior officials reported today in the National Assembly of Popular Power (ANPP), Prensa Latina reports.

When intervening in the parliamentary Commission of Health and Sport, the vice president of the Councils of State and Minister, Roberto Morales and the head of Public Health, José Ángel Portal, addressed as priorities the actions aimed at continuing to lower the levels of mosquito Aedes aegypti infestation, transmitting agent of several diseases.

According to Morales, the largest of the Antilles has been closed for two years without cholera cases and continues the sustained decrease in diarrheal diseases, while the dengue does not have a high transmission.

With regard to dengue, considered the greatest epidemiological challenge, the Minister of Health warned about the complex regional situation and the potential risk that the arrival of the rains, combined with the high temperatures, means, propitious for the reproduction of the mosquito.

Both Morales and Portal recognized in the Convention Center the actions at the national and territorial levels to guarantee the epidemiological stability of Cuba, which is described here as the highest governmental priority.

They also insisted on the role of the population and entities in the tasks of disease prevention.

The 10 permanent commissions of the ANPP began today two days of work, after the day before the new Constitution of the Republic was proclaimed.
