Havana, Cuba__ The United Nations Organization (UNO) Special Rapporteur, Maria Grazia Giammarinaro, will visit today the National Center for Sex Education (Cenesex) in compliance with its agenda in Cuba to confirm the confrontation with human trafficking, Prensa Latina reports.
In that institution, the official of the United Nations (UN) on the human rights of victims of Trafficking in Persons, especially women and children, is scheduled to meet with the deputy director of Cenesex, Manuel Vázquez.
This center counts on professionals of various specialties for the coordination and development of the Cuban Program of Sexual Education, which includes the education in that sense from the first moments of the life and commits the whole society in its execution.
In order to fulfill this objective, its specialists develop actions in favor of the improvement and balance of sexual and reproductive health through health programs and services such as the Maternity and Responsible Parenthood, Family Planning and Prevention of Transition Infections as well as Orientation and Therapy.
As part of its activities in the Island, Giammarinaro spoke last Tuesday with the head of the Ministry of Justice (Minjus), Maria Esther Reus, on the feasibility of the program against this phenomenon that affects the world.
According to the Cuban official, the Special Rapporteur acknowledged the political will of the Island in confronting trafficking in persons, as well as the viability of the plan of action it pursues for that purpose, which is based on three fundamental pillars: prevention, confrontation and care for victims.
In addition, she said that such an initiative has an adequate conception, a permanence and sustainability thanks to the Cuban political system, which allows the joint work of government structures and civil society.
Giammarinaro's program also included a meeting with Cuban Parliament President Esteban Lazo, who ratified the policy of this Caribbean nation of zero tolerance against any manifestation of trafficking in persons.
The UN rapporteur will conclude her official visit to the Caribbean nation next Friday with a press conference in the Cuban capital.
