Havana, Cuba_ Cubans celebrate this April 19 the 56th anniversary of the victory in Playa Girón, Radio Habana Cuba reports.
The day that is evoked today, is known in the continental history like the first great American military defeat in Latin America.
On the occasion of the date, the Community Artistic Ensemble Korimakao, from Cienaga de Zapata, will offer this Wednesday an artistic gala dedicated to Fidel Castro.
This grouping resumed the assembly based on a staging made on the occasion of the 90th birthday of the Cuban leader, on August 13, 2016, which recalls moments of his childhood, adolescence and youth.
The main act will be held in Giron, the last stronghold of an invading force composed of 1,500 troops trained, equipped and financed by Washington.
Following the clashes that began on April 17, 1961, the inexperienced revolutionary armed forces along with police and militiamen under the direct command of Fidel Castro overcame the invading brigade in 66 hours and with a result of 155 dead combatants and an indeterminate number of wounded.
The attackers, meanwhile, had 88 dead and 197 prisoners, according to official sources.
