Santiago de Cuba__ The President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa Delgado, received today the condition Illustrious Son of the city of Santiago de Cuba Distinction, the highest decoration awarded by the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power, Radio Reloj publishes.

The president expressed his gratitude to the Cuban government for giving him the opportunity to pay tribute to Martí and the eternal leader Fidel Castro, examples of struggle in Latin America.

"Cuba always gave us his free hand, also Fidel and now Raúl," said Correa at the conclusion of the tribute to these two giants of universal history in the cemetery of Santa Ifigenia.

During the visit to the cradle of the Revolution, the head of state will also visit the housing settlement of 560 apartments built by an Ecuadorian military contingent, for those affected by Hurricane Sandy, in the east of Santiago’s capital Santiago.
