Brasilia__ The first planned city of Brazil, Belo Horizonte, will host next June the XXIII National Convention of Solidarity with Cuba, which will pay special tribute to the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, Prensa Latina reports.

This will be a moment of joy and reflection, meant the José Martí Cultural Association of Minas Gerais and the Brazilian Movement of Solidarity with the Island when announcing the call to the meeting, scheduled from 15 to 17 of the coming month.

The appointment, they added, will be inspired by the examples of struggle and self-denial of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his assassination in Bolivian lands.

In another part, the call states that the Convention will be made aware that Cuba continues under a genocidal economic, financial and commercial blockade, that the Guantanamo naval base remains illegally occupied, and subversive actions against the Island remain on the part of the United States.

Latin American peoples live today in a context marked by a cruel and arrogant offensive of the imperialism against progressive governments, the call denounces and emphasizes that the need to strengthen unity in defense of sovereignty and self-determination is becoming more evident.

The opening of the XXIII Convention will take place on June 15 at the Francisco Nunes Theater, in the capital of Minas Gerais. At the end of the XXIII Convention the participants will enjoy the show Chords of Solidarity, with the participation of Brazilian and Cuban musicians.

The program of the meeting includes the holding of conferences on the US blockade against Cuba and the reintegration of Guantanamo Bay; The results and benefits of the application of the Más Médicos program during three years and on the updating of the Cuban economic model and the advances in its implementation.

The presentation and approval of the Charter of Belo Horizonte, and the election of the venue of the next meeting will end the debates of the meeting, culminating in a political-cultural event called Internationalist Solidarity Day.
