Havana, Cuba_ Cuba's President Raúl Castro Ruz will receive his counterpart from the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Brahim Ghali, who has been on an official visit to the Caribbean nation since Thursday, Prensa Latina reports.

During his stay in the Antillean country, Ghali will pay tribute to the Cuban National Hero José Martí in the homonymous Memorial of the capital Plaza de la Revolución, among other activities.

Ghali was born in Smara, Western Sahara, territory where he fought as part of the movement led by Sid Brahim Basiri for the liberation from the Spanish colonialism.

He was Defense Minister of the SADR on two occasions and currently, besides being head of state, he serves as general secretary of the Polisario Front, a movement of which he was a founder.

He recently met with Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina, who ratified the Island's support for the struggle of the Saharawi people for their right to self-determination and independence.

In a message congratulating Raul Castro on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, Ghali reiterated his country's commitment to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations and emphasized the importance of the legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, for the oppressed peoples of the world.

Cuba and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic established diplomatic relations in January 1980, and currently their main areas of collaboration are health and education.
