Havana, Cuba__ The scientific days of the VIII International Congress of Social Work begin today in the capital to update the sector’s professionals on the practices of the activity in the more than 10 nations attending this event, Radio Habana Cuba publishes.

During the meeting, dedicated to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, it is expected a lecture by the secretary general of the International Federation of Social Work (FITS), Rory Truel entitled: Political Solutions Require Solidarity: Contributions of the Social Work.

Also the program will allow to debate on the left in the government and social policies in Latin America, the complexity and perspectives of the space between civil society and state in situations of poverty and the challenge of gender policies.

The opportunity will be favorable to analyze the achievements of early stimulation in children with Down syndrome, collective actions for the prevention of disability in people with Diabetes Mellitus Type II, and the involvement of the breeding styles of Salvadoran families.

In the context of the conclave, under the theme Development and Prospects of Social Work in today's world, the 10th National Congress of Social Work and the Fourth National and International Congress of Socio Occupational Rehabilitation will also be held at the Habana Libre Hotel.

Prior to the event, scheduled until June 10th, they held pre-congress courses at the headquarters of the National Council of Health Scientific Societies, in the municipality of Plaza de la Revolución.

According to the Guatemalan Miriam Maldonado, an academic at the University of San Carlos, the teaching of the different subjects allowed us to reflect on how to carry out social work from our identity to promote the development of our nations.
