Washington_ US President Donald Trump ordered the Treasury Department to cancel sanctions imposed yesterday by that agency and related to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Prensa Latina reports.

The head of the White House made the announcement of that decision through his personal Twitter account, in a move that local media see as a show of dissent between the president and the federal entity.

Trump, who said the Treasury Department announced Friday new punishments against the DPRK, when in fact they were imposed yesterday, said in the microblogging service: 'I have ordered the withdrawal of these additional sanctions.'

In a subsequent statement on that change, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said the US president "likes President Kim," referring to the top leader of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, and "he does not believes that these sanctions are necessary. '

Trump's move came after Thursday the Treasury Department had imposed new sanctions on two Chinese shipping companies on the grounds that they helped Pyongyang evade international punishments, something rejected by Beijing.

After the measures adopted by the Treasury Department this week, South Korea reported on Friday the withdrawal of the DPRK from the open liaison office last September in the border city of Kaesong and the venue for weekly meetings on the various inter-Korean projects of cooperation.

However, Seoul expressed hopes for that space to return to normal operation and even await a North Korean response to hold a meeting at the military level.
