Caracas_ The legal siege on the opposition lawmaker Juan Guaido has increased after the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) approved a decree that lifts the parliamentary immunity enjoyed by the self-proclaimed interim president of Venezuela, Prensa Latina publishes.

After a request from the Supreme Court of Justice, the ANC agreed on Tuesday to strip the leader of the National Assembly, Parliament in contempt, of his guarantees, because he broke the cautionary prohibition of leaving the country without authorization.

The lifting of his parliamentary immunity will allow continuing the investigations opened by the Public Ministry and the Comptroller's Office of the Republic to enforce the country's laws, ANC Speaker Diosdado Cabello said.

Guaido is being investigated for his actions on January 23 that resulted in violent acts in the country, statements by foreign governments and the freezing of Venezuela's assets, which are considered serious crimes against constitutional order.

Other inquiries link the lawmaker with the usurpation of functions and actions with foreign States to the detriment of the people of Venezuela and its public assets, after he self-proclaimed president in charge with immediate support from the United States, an action that Caracas has described as an ongoing coup d'état.

Other investigations link Guaido with a terrorist cell captured by security agencies, as well as a corruption scheme to steal Government's funds estimated at nearly one billion dollars.
