Managua_ The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity (GRUN) of Nicaragua reaffirmed the commitment of the State and Government to understanding and peace, according to a statement issued today, Prensa Latina publishes.

'The delegation of GRUN before the negotiating table communicates to our people and the international community that in accordance with the invariable commitment of the Nicaraguan State and Government with the Understanding and Peace, we continue working according to the agreed plans,' the text says.

The parties agreed a deadline to the negotiations that expired yesterday, April 3, however, the process was not terminated because there was no consensus on the agenda items regarding Truth, Justice, Reparation, and Non-Repetition, nor in the Strengthening of Democracy and Electoral Reforms, the delegations of the GRUN and their counterpart, the opposition Civic Alliance, explained then.

However, government representatives reiterated the commitment of the State and the Government to comply with the agreement in a consensual manner, despite opposition accusations that they are not in agreement.

In a little more than a month of work, the negotiating table approved in a consensual manner important agreements in the search for peace in the Central American nation, which saw its development truncated by the coup attempt of April 2018.

The most important achievement is the release of the so-called 'political prisoners' according to the Agreement for the Facilitation of the Process for the Release of Persons Deprived of Liberty, and the Agreement to Strengthen Citizen Rights and Guarantees.

Later, they emphasized the need to achieve peace in the country through the promotion of safe coexistence, the right to decent work, and full economic recovery.
