Geneva: The tenth Forum of the World Summit of the Information Society (WSIS) begins today focused on technologies and communication to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UN), with the participation of representatives of all latitudes, Prensa Latina reports.
The event, sponsored by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), includes in its program workshops related to cyber security, digital technologies and the accessibility to them.
The event will be a space for the debate on the experiences and challenges from the development of cyberspace, the internet of things and the protection of personal data.
The high-level political meetings will take place on April 9 and 10 amid the WSIS Forum, with the participation of delegates from different countries from the private sector, civil society, technical community, academia, and international organizations.
During the forum, the most successful initiatives in the development of the Information Society will also be rewarded.
The WSIS contest, with eleven categories that include infrastructure development, access to web connections, governments and e-commerce, among others, is a platform to identify and show success stories and models to be replicated internationally.
Three Cuban projects were nominated for the 2019 edition of the World Summit on the Information Society: Redpinar, the website of Cuba Post and CubaEduca, a network community of the island's National Education System.
The Redpinar portal was the winning project among 174 papers on the role of governments and actors in the promotion of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for development.
The WSIS Forum is the only international event whose agenda and program are entirely the result of the collective collaboration of governments, civil society, the private sector, academic institutions that send their suggestions in a process of open consultations.
