Washington: The delegations of Mexico, Uruguay, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda and El Salvador rejected the resolution about Venezuela before the Organization of American States (OAS by its English acronyms) and argued that the OAS Charter does not empower the Permanent Council to accredit representatives of a State.
The permanent representative of Mexico before the OAS, Jorge Lomónaco, affirmed that the resolution approved by the organization on Venezuela lacks legitimacy. "It is a pyrrhic victory for a group of countries, without real effects and with potential negative consequences for the OAS and its institutionalism”, he said.
The declarations of Lomónaco respond to a resolution on Venezuela, approved this Tuesday by 18 members of the OAS, which recognizes the Venezuelan Gustavo Tarre as permanent representative, appointed by the National Assembly (AN) of Venezuela, which has been in contempt since 2016 and whose acts are null, Telesur indicates.
The Uruguayan ambassador said that his country adheres to the need to respect the legal norms to which all states are subject. "Uruguay is not going to accompany the resolution and we anticipate that if adopted, we will request to include it in the same a note at the foot of the page that clarifies to be against ".
He warned of the polarization and division that this resolution causes for the peaceful solution of Venezuela and added that his country cannot but be against an action of this nature.
