London: Representatives of several countries express their support to journalist, Julian Assange, and ask for his release after his arrest on Thursday in London, Cubasí reports.
The founder of WikiLeaks was arrested on Thursday at the Embassy of Ecuador in London, after the Ecuadorian government decided to withdraw the political asylum with which he had been benefiting since 2012.
The justification of Lenin Moreno's administration to resort to this measure is that Assange allegedly violated the established norms of the inter-American conventions on diplomatic asylum.
After this decision, the former president of Ecuador Rafael Correa, said "from now on the rogue and betrayal can be summarized at global level in two words: Lenin Moreno."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused London authorities of "strangulating freedom" and said he expects the detainee's rights to be respected in their entirety.
In this context, the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zajárova, remarked after the decision of the Ecuadorian Government that in this case "the hand of the 'democracy' strangles freedom."
The WikiLeaks media organization said Assange was arrested because of "an extradition request from the United States for the alleged conspiracy with Chelsea Manning to publish war records of Iraq."
For his part, Bolivian President Evo Morales expressed his solidarity with Assange and indicated that he is being persecuted for revealing violations of human rights committed by the United States.
The deputy of the European Parliament, Javier Couso, described as shameful the decision of President Moreno and demanded the immediate freedom of Assange.
The former employee of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States, Edward Snowden, said that the arrest of Assange marks a "black day for freedom of the press”.
