Washington: Democrat presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke criticized the racism, which in his opinion exists today at the highest levels of power in the United States (US), Prensa Latina reports.

Also, in a meeting with citizens in Alexandria, Virginia, on the outskirts of this capital, the politician promised unity within his party to remove from the White House the president, Donald Trump.

Whoever be the candidate of the blue force in the 2020 elections, we will do everything possible to defeat Trump, O'Rourke said, quoted by press reports.

The US is a country of immigrants, and must fight against hatred and racism anywhere, without distinction, he also stressed.

Mexican immigrants are not criminals nor are Muslims inherently dangerous; Nazis and white nationalists are not good people, he said.

For O’Rourke, the wonderful thing about the United States is the way in which it has incorporated people from all countries, professions and faith.

The former Texas state congressman is the first candidate to campaign in Virginia, a traditionally republican state, newspaper reports said.

However, they added, in recent years the territory has been won by the Democrats, thanks to the demographic change with the arrival of young families in the cities of the north, near Washington D.C.
