Brasilia: Former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is calling on his fellow citizens to take to the streets and to leaders and militants of progressive forces to keep much closer to the people, Prensa Latina reports.
This was stated by the President of the Workers Party (PT), Gleisi Hoffmann, and Senator Rogério Carvalho, who visited Lula at the headquarters of the Federal Police of Curitiba, in the southern state of Paraná, where he is serving his prison term since April 7, 2018 for alleged acts of corruption.
"We need to be closer to the Brazilian people," the ex-mandatory advised, Hoffmann and Carvalho said.
According to the deputy, 'our place is now in the streets, talk about the Previdencia (pension and retirement system), about the withdrawal of rights and alert about the possibility of new setbacks' under the Government of Jair Bolsonaro.
He reflected on what Bolsonaro means and what happens in Brazil. 'We cannot stop remembering the latest events in our history'.
Bolsonaro, the party leader warned, "was only viable because we had an impeachment (destitution process that led to a parliamentary-judicial coup that deposed President Dilma Rousseff in 2016), Lula’s prison and the fake news (false news) acting throughout this process and even more during the elections”.
Lula asked us once again to remain on the side of the people. And that could not be different because being next to the people is what he always likes to do, Hoffmann stressed.
Carvalho also described as very painful 'to see a comrade like Lula unjustly imprisoned a year ago. (...) Lula symbolizes a period of great improvements for the Brazilian people, of a high level of humanity, of fundamental public policies for the development of all segments'.
But the former president, as usual, does not want to know about discouragement and repeatedly asks for militancy not to let down, the congressman said.
"Lula told us to maintain permanent mobilization and increase dialogue with the people so that we do not have even more losses”, Carvalho said.
