Santiago de Chile: Chile dawns today in a general strike called by the social movement, 40 days after the start of unprecedented popular protests, against the neoliberal model and the deep inequalities existing in that country, Cubadebate publishes.

Among the first actions, hundreds of residents of the poor neighborhoods of this capital blocked access roads to this capital, claiming better living conditions.

Thus, about 500 people summoned by the Ukamau movement built barricades on the Autopista del Sol, which links Santiago with Valparaíso.

Protestants were evicted by Special Forces, who used jets of water and pepper spray thrown directly into the face of the protesters.

Several hundred people also interrupted traffic on the Pedro Aguirre motorway, at the height of the Cerrillos metro station, and similar actions were carried out in other parts of the capital's periphery.

They added that as a member of the Social Unity Board, the protests of the Ukamau community movement are part of the general strike called for this Tuesday throughout the country.

Protesters demand from the government to call a short agenda of measures with immediate solutions to some of the demands of the social movement.

These include an increase in the minimum wage to 510 thousand liquid pesos, of pensions at the level of that salary, improvement of quality in public health and education, as well as basic electricity, water, transportation services, available to all Chileans.
