Buenos Aires_ Argentine Vice-Minister Pedro Villagra ratified this Thursday, his country's fight against drug trafficking, during the inaugural sessions of the XIX High Level Meeting of the Coordination and Cooperation Mechanism between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union on drugs, the website of Radio Habana Cuba publishes.

The meeting began at the Palacio San Martín, headquarters of the Foreign Ministry, with the participation of 46 nations that make up the CELAC and the European Union.

Villagra said that this battle is one of the three pillars of management of the Argentine government along with the elimination of poverty and the unity of the people, and stressed that the challenges include the issue of synthetic drugs and the use of the internet for the marketing of these psychoactive substances.

Stephanie Pappalardo, the head of the European Union delegation, said that this mechanism is a platform to strengthen national capacities to deal with this scourge, which hit the world and called for measures to prevent the use of medicines for other purposes and at the same time she advocated for a constant cooperation to combat the issue of money laundering, a transnational crime linked to drug trafficking.

Delegates to the meeting, which will end on Friday, will discuss joint strategies to combat the global drug problem that affects both young people and adults across five continents.

The representatives of CELAC and the European Union will guide the political dialogue on bi regional coordination and cooperation mechanisms about this scourge.
