Quito_ The president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, will preside today the last change of guard ceremony at the Palace of Carondelet, as a dignitary, a position in which he will be succeeded by President Lenin Moreno, within two days, Prensa Latina reports.
The event, held every Monday by the Tarqui grenadiers, defenders of the presidential seat and its highest representative, brings together in the Plaza Grande, located in front of the property, many Ecuadorians and foreign visitors.
It is also a special moment in which the ruler goes out on the balcony and greets the citizens who offers him affection and respect with phrases, songs, banners, balloons and flags.
Every week there are special guests who accompany the president on the balcony of the Palace.
On this occasion, the ceremony will have a special connotation, as the leader will bid farewell to his people in Quito from the building that hosted him for 10 years, during which he guided the destinies of this South American country and implemented numerous policies in favor of the Ecuadorians, and especially the most vulnerable sectors.
Correa will finish his term this Wednesday, when Moreno swears in.
The new president was elected along with his binomial partner, Jorge Glas, who retained the position of vice president in the recounting of votes carried out the past 2 of April.
