Moscow__ Russian President Vladimir Putin offered today his condolences to British PM Theresa May for the victims of a suicide bombing at Manchester Arena, which left a toll of 22 dead and 59 wounded, Prensa Latina reports.

Putin expressed his country's readiness to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation with UK partners, bilaterally and as part of broad international efforts, a Kremlin statement said.

Russia condemns this criminal act and expects those responsible to receive the due punishment, says the head of state.

The detonation came almost at the end of a concert of the American singer Ariana Grande, which took place in the largest indoor stadium in the European Union, with capacity for 21 thousand people.

In the stampede, many people were injured, while police evacuated a suspect object and carried out a planned destruction, that result only a false alarm, because it was only part of abandoned clothing, the television said.

The facility is in the heart of Manchester and was inaugurated in 1995.

The bombing is the deadliest in the United Kingdom since at least four suicide bombers detonated bombs at three London subway stations and a two-storey public transport bus in July 2005, killing 50 people and wounding dozens .

On several occasions, Putin called on the Western powers to join forces to fight alongside the terrorist scourge, especially after bombings in Berlin, Nice, Paris, London, Brussels, Stockholm and now Manchester.
