Quito__ The president of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, will receive today a Sacred Spiritual Stick from indigenous leaders, as part of the swearing-in program, Prensa Latina reports.

The ceremony, which will take place in the Pyramid of Cochasqui, northeastern of this capital, will be led by the National Federation of Peasant, Indigenous and Black Organizations (Fenocin), along with other associations.

"The cane represents spirituality from the people and from the organized bases ... As long as the unity remains strong, that will allow important changes to benefit all sectors and therefore that is the work that was planted as an organization, the head of the institution, Franklin Columba, told Radio Pichincha Universal.

In a previous act, the leaders met to bless the baton and wish good luck and energy to the president, sworn the day before in the National Assembly.

The cane symbolizes the coexistence between Mother Earth (Pachamama) and the human being (rune).

According to Columba, Moreno promised to promote the harmony between these two elements, which is why the event also represents a guarantee of compliance with that promise.

The former head of state Rafael Correa also received a cane made of wood after his swearing.

The sacred object has embedded the ancestral symbols of the four regions of the country (Costa, Sierra, Amazonía and Galapagos).
