United Nations_ Bolivia assumes today the monthly presidency of the United Nations’ Security Council in the midst of serious conflicts and challenges for world peace, Prensa Latina reports.

Under the leadership of the South American country, the 15-member body defines its work agenda for June, which the Bolivian ambassador here, Sacha Llorenti, will later share with the other 178 members of the United Nations and the press.

The program is expected to include a visit to Haiti, discussions on the crises in Syria, Yemen, and South Sudan, and a session devoted to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

It should also include open debates and follow-up to UN peacekeeping missions.

For the third time in its history, Bolivia occupies a seat as a non-permanent member of the Council, a body mandated by the Charter of the United Nations to ensure international peace and security.
