Jamaica__ The country allocated 118 million dollars, of the local currency, to the recovery of the damages suffered by the agriculture during the heavy rains of May, Prensa Latina reports.

The amount represents little more than the eighth part of the total cost of the damages reported by the sector, following the scourge of the hydro meteorological event that caused floods in great part of the Caribbean island, and damages to 10 thousand farmers.

The Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Karl Samuda, assured that the portfolio and the Rural Agricultural Development Authority will maintain the support to the peasants to overcome the damages caused by the precipitations.

Samuda acknowledged that adverse weather conditions will negatively influence the growth of a sector that in 2016 represented 7.5 percent of the country's gross domestic product.
