La Paz_ Bolivian President Evo Morales today noted the aspiration to celebrate the bicentennial of the nation with the total eradication of extreme poverty, which in 2006 affected 38 percent of the population, Prensa Latina reports. 

With the 2020-2025 patriotic agenda, we hope that 200 years after the foundation of Bolivia we will have zero poverty, we have dropped to 16 percent, but we must continue working on it, he said at the inauguration of a modern educational unit in the community of Achica Arriba.

Surrounded by a crowd of community members wearing red ponchos and black hats, women, youths and children in this indigenous town, 40 kilometers from La Paz and with very low temperatures, Morales recalled that in 2005, public investment was just 600 million dollars.

This year, the executive has planned to invest eight billion dollars, which includes this modern facility at the cost of nearly one million dollars and with laboratories, workshops, an computer room and an astronomy observatory.

A few hours after returning from Brussels, Morales commented that in Europe, they no longer see us as a begging state and people, but as a rapidly developing country, and authorities from European nations have another view of Bolivia today.
