United States_ In a speech given this Friday in Miami, US President Donald Trump announced that he will maintain the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by Washington for 55 years, according to Radio Habana Cuba.
Before an audience made up of representatives of the right wing of the Cuban community in that city and anti-Cuban congressmen, the president, who used a Cold War language, said he would apply exemptions to US travel to the Island and prohibit trade with companies from the country.
According to the US president, his policy toward Cuba will be guided by what he called the key interests of US national security and solidarity with the Cuban people.
The White House's new directive states that Americans could not make any kind of deal with state-owned companies in the Caribbean nation.
As for travel, Trump will instruct the Treasury Department to audit the arrivals to the region of the American airlines that have already begun to operate with this destination.
The executive order includes exceptions for the payment of taxes at airports and ports, also for transactions related to renting rooms in private homes and sending remittances through the Cuban financial system.
Other particularities would seek to expand telecommunications and Internet access on the Island, and continue with exports of agricultural products and medicines.
The new attitude would also include a ban on having bank accounts in the United States from officials from various sectors, state agencies, unions, the media, lawmakers, officials and judges.
The Treasury Department will issue a guide explaining the scope of its pronouncements this Friday in Miami and how they will be implemented, Trump said.
