Mayabeque, Cuba: A machine for cutting sponge blocks is the latest invention of Oscar Alonso Suárez, the only mechanic of the Furniture Base Business Unit SIGNO, of Batabanó.

The machine to cut blocks of sponge already benefits other municipalities of the province and will be presented at the next Science and Technical Forum at the grassroots level.

Oscar Alonso has been an active member of the movement of innovators and rationalizers for 30 years.

Thanks to the magic of his hands, a calibrating sander, two panel saws and a hydraulic press, among other equipment continue operating.
