Mayabeque, Cuba: The selection of Santa Cruz del Norte was proclaimed provincial monarch of the Lazaro Peña Softball Cup of the Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC), held last weekend on the grounds of Nelson Fernández Sports Complex in San José de las Lajas.
The meetings between the teams of San Nicolás, Batabanó, Santa Cruz del Norte and Bejucal, which had previously classified in the three geographical areas of this province, were carried out on Saturday.
In the first game of the semifinals, the team from San Nicolás gave a knockout to the southern town of fishermen, with a score of 12 runs for 2 in just seven innings and secured their place in the discussion of the title.
According to the report of Yoanis Varona, in the second round the team of the northern Villa Azul was too much for those of the City of the Charangas and left them out of combat with a score of 16 entries by 5.
In the final challenge for the crown held on the same day, Santa Cruz came out through the wide door at the expense of San Nicolás when scoring 15 times and only allow five runs.
The new provincial champion of the workers' softball, will represent Mayabeque in the Western Zonal phase, which will take place next month in Matanzas, prelude to the National Championship of the XXIV Lázaro Peña Cup of the CTC, whose final stage will be in Havana on May 29.
