Mayabeque, Cuba_ Mayabeque baseball players Denis Laza Spencer and Luis Manuel Castro Ortiz are part of the Cuban team that will take part in the next edition of the Canadian League of that sport, according to the Cuban Baseball Federation.

Laza, a veteran outfielder from San Jose de las Lajas, will wear the glorious four-letter uniform for the second time, while Castro Ortiz, a young pitcher from Güines, continued to demonstrate aptitude and talent for bigger endeavors and for the first time is to represent his country abroad.

Both played meritorious campaigns with the Hurricanes in the 56th National Series, so they were selected to join the West team for the All-Star Game.

As a culmination to the excellent last campaign, their performances allowed them to be included in the All-Star teams to the offense and defense, for which he was awarded at the Gala de los Campeones, held in the land of national monarchs.

The lajero was the first of this young province in a Cuba team; as reinforcement of other territories he has been twice national holder, the most recent with the Granma, where he contributed to the title.

The Island team led by Ciego de Avila’s Roger Machado, will leave for Canada on Saturday and after a brief adaptation will debut on Friday, June 9th, before the Aguilas de Rivieres squad.

The roster of 28 athletes is composed of three catchers, eight infield defenders; four will alternate in the outfields and has a staff of 13 pitchers.
