Mayabeque, Cuba_ This April 4th we celebrate the 58th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM) and 57 of the Young Communists League (UJC).

The fundamental mission of these structures is to work with girls, boys and young people from a political, social and economic point of view.

In 1962, the Association of Young Rebels held its First Congress. Fidel raised the need for young people to have a selective organization, based on the principles of Marxism-Leninism, capable of grouping them in tasks that contribute to the construction of socialism.

There, it was agreed to create the UJC, a political organization to prepare the future militants of the Party and which would also guide the pioneers, that in the future would be called the Union of Pioneers of Cuba (UPC).

In the III Congress of the UJC a new structure for the organization of pioneers was approved.

It was the year 1977 and on October 8, anniversary of the fall of Che in the Bolivian guerrilla, it was agreed to change its name to the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM), given the political validity and the historical value of our Apostle and the example to follow of all his life and work.

The Young Communists League is the political organization of vanguard of the Cuban youth, it is the youth organization of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and the main quarry for entering its ranks, forged in the Marxist-Leninist conception, the ideas and the practice of the thought of Maceo, Martí, Camilo, Che and Fidel; it is the heir and continuation of the fighting traditions of the young Cubans who, throughout history, have been an essential part of the revolutionary advance, as shown by the attitude of the Five Heroes, genuine representatives of the generations formed by the Revolution.
