Mayabeque, Cuba: Today we commemorate the 61st anniversary of the Strike of April 9. It was convened by the national leadership of the July 26 Movement, presided over by Fidel Castro and led by hundreds of fighters, mostly young and humble workers.

The objective was to paralyze the nation and unleash a mass movement that would lead to the collapse of Fulgencio Batista's dictatorship. In Mayabeque, the municipality of Güines was one of the most involved and among those who died and became martyrs areHumberto Almeida Delgado, Restituto Alonso Padrón, Venancio Núñez, and Daniel Pérez Amaro.

For this reason, the provincial act was held on Tuesday here, with the presence of the member of the Central Committee of the Party and its first secretary in this province.

The President of the Cuban Association of Combatants of the Revolution (ACR) in the municipality, Manuel Álvarez Mendoza, highlighted the importance of the events that occurred on April 9, 1958, a clear sign of the decision of the Cuban people to continue fighting for independence.
