Mayabeque, Cuba: The mini-industry El Álamo, belonging to the Cooperative of Credits y Services (CCS) Pedro González, recently inaugurated in the municipality of Madruga, diversifies the production of canned food.

This factory has a line for the processing of frutabomba, pineapples and guavas, other fresh fruits, ripe and carefully selected, to make jams, slices and segments in syrup.

According to the specialist Anilemis Brito Martínez recently tested the profile of potatoes and fried bananas, the latter with a lot of acceptance among working women.

They also make pickles of cucumber, tomatoes and other vegetables with the use of modern equipment that allows them to obtain canned products with excellent yields.

This project, financed by the governments of Cuba and Canada, promotes local self-sufficiency in food and strengthens the capacities to influence the elaboration of agricultural plans and increases the availability of supplies, through a value chain approach based on the needs of the population.
