Mayabeque, Cuba: The delegate of Mayabeque to the XXI Congress of the Cuban Workers’ Confederation of Cuba (CTC) Juan Méndez, said that the defense of the country also passes through the union of all social actors in pursuit of the development of the economy.
"There are many expectations about the Congress in that sense, because in the conclave we discussed key issues such as the implementation of policy guidelines to achieve the construction of a prosperous and sustainable country," he said.
"The military industry also contributes to the welfare of society in other areas of the economy," the defense union member told Prensa Latina.
On the prompt activation by the United States of Title III of the Helms Burton Act, to intensify the blockade against Cuba, the trade unionist expressed his confidence that the Caribbean nation will be victorious in this new escalation of Washington.
He added that history is a witness to the continuity of the Cuban Revolution that turned 60 despite the constant attempts of successive US governments to overthrow it with aggression of all kinds.
"In the year 89 practically Cuba was left alone and we are in 2019 and we are still standing, we are beacon and guide of all Latin American countries," he said.
The event, which brings together about 1200 delegates from around the country in the capital, will culminate on April 24, after intense debates and the election of the new board of directors of the Cuban Workers’ Confederation.
