Mayabeque, Cuba_ A total of 320 hectares are planted with potatoes in Melena del Sur, as part of the 2018 cold season.

According to Andrés Gil Hernández, specialist of the activity in the Agricultural Company of the territory, for this occasion they foresee to plant 430 ha, 83 of them with national seed and the rest imported.

A total of 10 productive forms intervene in the activity, 5 Basic Units of Cooperative Production (UBPC), 1 agricultural and other 2 of Credits and Services, besides to 2 Urban Farms.

Gil Hernández explained that several private farmers take over the job, among them the brothers Ricardo and Ariel Luzardo of the Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS) René Orestes Reiné, Yomár Báez, from  Raúl Gómez and Jorge González, of the UBPC Simón Rodríguez . The UBPC Manuel Isla assumes the highest volume of planting and harvesting with 90 ha.

The executive assured that there is a total guarantee in the technological package, as well as other inputs to successfully complete this stage.

The farmers of Melena del Sur, foresee to obtain 9 thousand 218.5 tons of the queen of the viands and for the second ten of February they will begin to collect in the UBPC 3 of October the first 323 tons belonging to the national potato.
