Geneva_ Four resolutions presented by Cuba were adopted in this city during the 31st regular session of the Human Rights Council, Granma newspaper publishes.

The resolutions cover important issues related to economic, social and cultural rights and were supported by countries from all regions of the world, said today the Permanent Mission of Cuba in Geneva in a statement.

The promotion of cultural rights, cultural diversity and the right to food, included in two of the Cuban initiatives, represent legitimate aspirations of the peoples of the world, highlights the statement.

The diplomatic delegation emphasized that by adopting these resolutions, the Council has shown its support to the promotion and protection of human rights.

Given the marked difference in the geographical composition of the staff of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, was also adopted a Cuban draft resolution, the statement added.

The draft resolution calls to 'take stronger measures to address this persistent difference', in order to achieve a better representation of the different political, economic and legal systems.

The Council also adopted a resolution on the effects of external debt and other related international financial obligations.

The negative impact of the financial and economic crisis and austerity measures was reflected in the resolution, the delegation said.

According to the delegation, with the introduction and adoption of these four resolutions, Cuba reaffirmed its commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights.

The 31st regular session of the Council concludes this Thursday, after four weeks of intense work.
