Brasilia_ The day when Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva evokes the 68th anniversary of his deceased wife Marisa LetÃcia, the Federal Police (PF) will try today to arrest the former president of Brazil, following an order from Judge Sergio Moro, Prensa Latina report.
Lula, who since Thursday night remains protected by thousands of supporters at the headquarters of the Metalworkers Union in San Bernardo del Campo, Sao Paulo, will participate today in a mass in memory of the former lady, according to her relatives murdered by Operation Lava Jato, directed by Moro.
The Curitiba judge unexpectedly ordered Lula's incarceration at the end of Thursday afternoon and indicated that Lula had to be presented before 5:00 p.m. (local time) yesterday at the PF Superintendence in Curitiba, the capital of the State of Paraná
After the deadline, and before the protesters gathered around the Metalworkers' Union, the national president of the Workers' Party (PT), Gleisi Hoffmann, informed that the historical leader of the PT would remain there with the people.
Lula does not intend to breach the prison mandate issued by Moro, but opted not to exercise the option of appearing before the Superintendence of the FP of Curitiba offered by him, he explained.
Hoffmann stressed that the largest popular leader in Brazil is not fugitive, but decided to stay with the people, in a public place and which everyone knows.
Shortly after, the PF announced that it was abandoning the execution of the arrest warrant on Friday and hoped that this could be carried out today 'in the best possible way', for which the negotiations between the police commanders and the former president's lawyers would continue.
According to press sources, the PF refuses to have to arrest Lula inside the union headquarters and negotiates that he will be delivered elsewhere; Meanwhile, the PT insists that the order must be xecuted execute it there.
Last night it was also learned that the defense of the former president decided to enter with a new appeal before the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to try to prevent the early imprisonment of Lula, determined illegally by Moro, according to his assessment.
The decision came after the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) denied yesterday for the second time the granting of a habeas corpus to the ex-governor.
The trial of the writ of habeas corpus fell into the hands of Minister Félix Fischer, 70 years old and rapporteur of the anti-corruption operation Lava Jato in that court and who worked for 23 years in the Public Ministry of Paraná, the same state from where Moro acts
In a note, the newspaper Correio Braziliense warned that the appeal filed by the defense of the founder of the Workers' Party (PT) before the STJ 'could have a harmless effect'.
Fischer, the publication explained, is known for making tough decisions against the historical leader of the PT. In 2017, for example, he did not attend any of the 10 requests presented by the former president's lawyers, he recalled.
