Caracas_ Venezuela repudiated today the new unilateral measures imposed against the country by the United States president, Donald Trump, less than 24 hours before the announcement of Nicolás Maduro's presidential re-election, Prensa Latina reports.

Through an executive order, Trump prohibited any citizen, institution or company of the North American nation from acquiring Venezuelan debt or assets and property belonging to the Venezuelan executive in the United States, including those derived from Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA).

In response to such maneuver, the Venezuelan authorities issued a statement in which they repudiate 'the systematic campaign of aggressions and hostilities of the US regime that seeks to punish the Venezuelan people for exercising their sacred and legitimate right to vote.'

The document emphasizes that 'through illicit and illegitimate measures that try to expand the economic and financial siege against our Homeland, they intend to break the right to self-determination of our people and to attack their model of socioeconomic development.'

The text calls for an alert to the international community about 'the threat to world peace represented by the supremacist, racist and interventionist regime that runs Washington today, inspired by the terrible postulates of the Ku Klux Klan, and that promotes hatred, the intolerance and the political and financial lynching against the dignified people of Venezuela. '

'These arbitrary and unilateral measures constitute a crime against humanity and impede Venezuela's right to development and hinder access to essential goods of the population,' the document emphasizes.

In turn, he explains that 'the US government make use of the Venezuelan people needs as political weapon to attack the institutions and the stability of the Republic, and in this way, promote the overthrow of the head of State, Nicolás Maduro, in the framework of the imperial doctrine of change of regime'.

In previous days the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Jorge Arreaza, during a meeting with the 150 international companions to the May 20 elections, stressed that the coercive policies of Washington will not intimidate the Venezuelan people in the defense of their sovereignty and democratic system.
