Caracas_ The deputy of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) of Venezuela, Juan Carlos Alemán, warned about the entry of Colombia to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and its direct consequences for Latin America, the Cuban News Agency reports.

Alemán emphasized that NATO, which now includes Colombia as a global partner, intends to impose models and positions with the aim of achieving greater control in the area.

The member of the Venezuelan plenipotentiary forum warned that, with the formalization of Colombia's entry into NATO, scheduled for May 31, that nation will become the spearhead of US imperialism, which seeks to reduce the commercial influence of Asian and European countries in the region.

Last Saturday, the Venezuelan government rejected the announcement by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos about the entry of his country into NATO as a global partner.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry denounced through an official statement that the decision of Bogota "constitutes a serious threat to regional peace and stability, based on the defense of interests unrelated to the welfare of our sovereign peoples."
