Jakarta_ At least one person died and another 128 disappeared when a ferry sank due to bad weather conditions in Lake Toba, Indonesia, Prensa Latina reports.
The Search and Rescue Agency based in the city of Medan, in the north of the island of Sumatra, declared that 18 survivors were rescued and presumably a breakage of the rudder of the boat was the cause for the accident that occurred the day before.
Although the rescue operations stopped two hours due to bad weather, they will continue with the search for survivors, the agency confirmed.
On the other hand, the police reported that the ferry had a license to transport 60 people and at the time of the sinking there were around 130 passengers.
Last week at least 13 people were killed and eight others disappeared after the sinking of a passenger ship eight kilometers off the coast of Makasar, Indonesian province of South Sulawesi.
Official figures assured that almost 32 million Indonesians are on the move during the Eid al-Fitr festivities, which mark the end of Ramadan.
Although boats or ships are Indonesia best means of transport to travel around its 17,500 islands, the lack of safety standards often leads to accidents.
