Managua_ The Government of Nicaragua and the so-called Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy (opposition) are resuming national dialogue today to overcome the sociopolitical crisis that has shaken the country over the past two months, Prensa Latina reports.
Three working tables related to verification and security, the electoral issue and judicial matters will start meeting today at 10:00 hours, local time, at the Inter-diocesan Seminar of Our Lady of Fatima, according to the Episcopal Conference, which is mediating and witnessing the process.
According to the Executive, the government delegation will ratify a proposal to establish, at local commissions on peace, security and reconciliation, valid mechanism and commitments to be implemented immediately, with the goal of stopping the terrorist wave of crimes, kidnappings, torture, outrage, threats, intimidation, arson and unlimited atrocities against the life and dignity of the people.
On the other hand, the members of the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights (IACHR) are in Nicaragua to provide technical assistance to the table on verification and security, which is in charge of implementing the agreement on the end to violence and a plan to lift the roadblocks nationwide.
The Catholic hierarchy called the dialogue after the government invited international bodies like the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the European Union to oversee the process, in tune with the agreements reached at the plenary meeting. The government strongly thinks that dialogue and negotiation are the only ways to a peaceful solution to any dispute, Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada said on Friday, at the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS).
