Havana_ The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, highlighted here today at the XXIV Meeting of the Sao Paulo Forum, the legacy of resistance and struggle of Fidel Castro, Prensa Latina reports.

In a plenary devoted to the thought of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, which is also attended by President Miguel Diaz-Canel and the leaders of Bolivia and El Salvador, Evo Morales and Salvador Sánchez Cerén respectively, the dignatary highlighted Fidel's commitment to unity and the defense of social justice and the dignity of peoples.

Maduro also mentioned in the Palace of Conventions of Havana the example of the Cuban leader (1926-2016) in the face of the construction of projects marked by justice, democracy and dignity, regardless of what those processes are called.

In his speech, the Venezuelan leader addressed the situation in his country, subjected to internal and external aggression, with the United States government as a protagonist, a crusade that includes the danger - he said - of military aggression.

We have resisted the violence and the attacks of the most powerful empire, said Maduro, who recalled the interest of the centers of power, and in particular of Washington, in seizing the great resources of the South American nation, including oil and gold.

He also warned that the empire plans to destroy the transformative example of the Bolivarian Revolution.

The Socialist leader assured that Venezuela will resist the attacks and maintain peace.

In our country peace will continue to triumph with homeland, with justice and independence, he said.

Maduro took advantage of his speech at the XXIV Meeting of the Sao Paulo Forum to express solidarity with Nicaragua and reject the violence that has been imposed on the Central American country.

Similarly, he repudiated the imprisonment of former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a position accompanied by the demand of 'Lula libre' by the more than 600 delegates present at the Convention Center.

The presidents of Bolivia, Evo Morales, and El Salvador, Salvador Sánchez Cerén, also participated in the plenary to highlight the contributions of Fidel Castro to the unity of the progressive and leftist forces, and to the Latin American and Caribbean integration.
