Brasilia_ Different sectors of Brazil, including the Workers' Party (PT), hold national protests this Wednesday for the 100 days of imprisonment that former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has fulfilled, Radio Habana Cuba publishes.
The main act, in defense of the "political prisoner", as the PT cataloged Lula in a communique released on the eve, will take place in the city of Curitiba (state of Paraná, south), where Lula remains in custody.
The situation of Lula has been denounced by artists, intellectuals, jurists, leaders from around the world and is summarized in one of the greatest democratic demonstrations that Brazil has witnessed: the Lula Libre Vigil, which since 8 April expresses resistance at the doors of the headquarters of the Federal Police in Curitiba, the statement said.
The progressive group, founded by Lula, launched a web page with statements from each of the people who have decided to camp in the area to demand the freedom of the exmandatario (2003-2011).
The events in support of the South American leader will continue until August 15, when the legal deadline to register candidates for the presidential election expires. Until now the PT has Lula as its aspirant, backed by the majority support of the Brazilians, according to the polls.
