Moscow_ Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, will hold a brief meeting in Paris during a lunch at the Elysee Palace, according to Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov, Prensa Latina reports.

There will only be a short exchange in Paris, where the positions of both sides in the international arena and bilateral issues will be reviewed, Ushakov said.

French authorities expressed fear that the meeting or the mere fact of its preparation could completely distract attention from the main event scheduled for next Sunday; that is, the centenary of the end of World War I, he added.

Therefore, Moscow and Washington took the decision to hold a formal meeting during the G-20 Summit, to be held on November 30 and December 1 in Buenos Aires, the presidential assistant pointed out.

The issues could also include the United States' withdrawal from the medium- and short-range Nuclear Weapons Treaty, signed in 1987 by then US President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

The treaty stipulated the elimination of all missiles, nuclear or conventional, with a land base and a range between 500 and 5,500 kilometers. In total, more than 2,200 such rockets were destroyed.

However, the White House accuses the Kremlin of violating the arrangement signed more than 30 years ago, while the Russian Ministry of Defense handed over documents to the US side demonstrating its actions beyond the parameters of the treaty.
