Caracas_ After the election and the swearing-in ceremony of opposition deputy Henry Ramos Allup as the president of the National Assembly of Venezuela for the annual period 2016-2017, the new parliament was established, which will be in session until January, 2021, Prensa Latina reports.
With 109 votes in favor, Deputy Enrique Marquez (A New Time party) and Deputy Jose Calzadilla (Progressive Movement of Venezuela) were elected as first and second vice-president, respectively.
After the results of the parliamentary elections on December 6, 2015, in which the opposition obtained the majority, Ramos Allup has declared himself openly in favor of privatizing fundamental companies of the national economy, nationalized by the State.
Ramos Allup has also stated his intention of repealing laws such as the Law on Land and Agrarian Development, the Organic Laws of Work and Fair Prices, as well as the Housing Acts.
The new president of the National Assembly defends the adoption of a Law on Amnesty to release political prisoners, including Leopoldo Lopez in prison for planning a coup d'état in 2014 that caused 43 deaths and more than 800 people injured.
The president of the Republic, Nicolas Maduro, stated that he would not enact any law that sets free criminals esponsible for the death for hundreds of Venezuelans.
